While Megan was sunning it up in Australia, Charlotte and Lucy interviewed on of Breaking the Glass Slipper’s favourite people: Emma Newman. Emma is a woman of many talents, including being a fabulous writer, outspoken feminist, snazzy dresser, hilarious podcaster, and audiobook narrator extraordinaire. Is there anything she can’t do?!

emma-newmanA relative rarity amongst genre writers, Emma writes both fantasy and science fiction with her hugely popular urban fantasy Split Worlds series as well as scifi standalone novels Planetfall and After Atlas. We ask Emma about the gender dynamics in her writing, the difference in writing science fiction vs fantasy, her views on gender inequality in SFF, and how she goes about the process of worldbuilding.

Charlotte and Lucy take this opportunity to lavish love on the show when Peter Newman (aka Latimer the Butler, sometimes also known for his own writing, having recently won a David Gemmell award for his novel The Vagrant) joins them.

Emma’s latest novel, After Atlas, is released on November 8th. If you’re in the UK, don’t miss an opportunity to meet Emma at Forbidden Planet in London on November 12th. You can pre-order the novel here or a signed copy from Forbidden Planet here.
