We’re very excited because in this episode we get to talk to another podcast! Not just any podcast but the folklore world’s hottest up and coming show, WyrdFolk Pod! This show doesn’t just talk folklore and share folktales, it describes itself as a duelling podcast which invites its audience to listen to two stories written fresh by its hosts for every episode and vote on which is their favourite.
It is run by sisters, Nikki and Sam, who kindly joined us to discuss the origins of their show and why folklore is having a moment.

Nikki is a writer, cat fancier and mythology geek. Her first experiences of folktale were inside the pages of Ladybird books and she’s been hooked ever since. She writes mainly for children and young adults where the focus is almost always the gothic and supernatural. When not writing she can be found poking around ancient sites and daydreaming about potatoes.
Sam is inspired by the folklore she has encountered around the globe and her experiences as an outsider looking to find a place amongst the strange and unusual. She enjoys focusing on female-led coming-of-age stories, themed around family ties and self-discovery. When not chained to her laptop, you can find her exploring Iron Age ruins in the Cotswold hills, or digging through the shelves of London’s finest occult bookstores. Her current projects include developing a short film, podcast writing and screen writing. Sam’s debut novel Slueths will be published on 21st May 2026. Watch this space for more exciting updates!
