Variously listed as a horror, comedy and fantasy film by different websites, one thing is certain: Cabin in the Woods, by Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon, defies easy labelling. Is this a send-up of the horror genre in the style of Scary Movie? Is it a rumination on choice and self determination? Or does it want us to ask complex ethical questions about the value of a person’s life set against the value of the whole human race?

Throw in an exploration of stereotypes and we think it is a little of all the above. And we’re here to tell you why. Buckle in because we’re going to redneck zombie land.
